Welcome to the Texas LGD Association, your trusted source for education, standards, and advocacy related to livestock guardian dogs (LGDs) in Texas. We welcome new LGD owners, experienced producers, breeders, trainers, researchers, and anyone with a professional or personal interest in the proper use and stewardship of livestock guardian dogs.

The Texas LGD Association serves as a primary guardian of best practices, ethical standards, and responsible use of LGDs across the state. We are deeply committed to supporting producers, improving working outcomes, and preserving the long-term effectiveness and welfare of livestock guardian dogs in real-world agricultural systems.

Our Mission

Our responsibility is to preserve, support, and promote livestock guardian dogs as an essential, science-based tool for predator management in Texas livestock operations.

The Texas LGD Association is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to:

  • Encouraging ethical breeding and placement of LGDs
  • Promoting sound management, bonding, and long-term retention practices
  • Providing accurate, research-based information to producers and professionals
  • Supporting education, outreach, and collaboration among stakeholders

What We Do

The Texas LGD Association provides a venue where members can exchange information, collaborate, and participate in LGD-related activities, including but not limited to:

  • Livestock guardian dog management and training
  • Predator deterrence and integrated predator management
  • Bonding LGDs to single or multiple livestock species
  • Ranch and pasture-based livestock protection systems
  • Working dog welfare and husbandry
  • Research, Extension, and producer education
  • Field days, workshops, webinars, and outreach events

Membership Information

Annual Membership Dues:

  • Run per calendar year based on your level of membership
  • Discounted multi-year memberships are coming soon!

Membership is open to livestock producers, breeders, trainers, veterinarians, Extension personnel, researchers, students, and supporters of responsible LGD use.

What is the term of a Texas LGD Association membership?

Memberships are based on the calendar year (January 1–December 31).

What if I join later in the year?

Memberships initiated later in the year remain valid through December 31 of that calendar year.

What if I want to join for more than one year?

Multi-year memberships are available at a discounted rate. These options can be selected during the application process.

Do I have to fill out paperwork or sign anything to join?

Yes. All members must complete a membership application and agree to abide by the Association’s Code of Ethics and bylaws.

Does the Association offer publications or educational resources to members?

Yes. Members receive access to Association communications, educational materials, announcements, and event notifications. Additional member-only resources may be provided as they become available.

How will I know when my membership is expiring?

Members will receive renewal reminders prior to the end of the calendar year.
